Readiness for Federal Funding
The New England EJ Federal Funding Hub is committed to empowering organizations to effectively access and manage federal funding. To support this goal, the Hub has curated a list of readiness questionnaires and assessments tailored to help organizations evaluate their preparedness for applying for and administering federal grants. These tools are designed to guide organizations in identifying key strengths, pinpointing areas that need improvement, and understanding the requirements of federal funding processes.
Through these assessments, organizations can gain insights into critical factors such as financial management systems, compliance capabilities, project management resources, and organizational capacity. By addressing gaps and building on their existing capabilities, organizations can position themselves as strong candidates for federal funding opportunities.
State Readiness
For some projects, nonprofits need to partner with state or municipal offices to apply for federal funding. Some communities have capacity constraints and may need extra support to pursue federal funding.
The State Funding Readiness Project (SFRP) provides free, fast, and flexible technical assistance to jurisdictions preparing for, applying for, and implementing federal investments. We prioritize programs from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). We focus on projects that advance climate equity priorities, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build climate resilience. We support a range of capacity-constrained subnational jurisdictions, such as states, local governments, U.S. Territories, Tribes, and community-based organizations.

Project Readiness Checklist for US Department of Transportation Discretionary Grant Applicants
Some U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) discretionary grant programs review and score grant applications on “project readiness,” a term that refers to how ready an applicant is to deliver a project. This checklist (also available as a PDF) provides generalized background and guidance on factors to consider for project readiness. It does not constitute a standard, specification, or regulation or create requirements other than those stipulated in statute and regulation.
