Connecticut State resources
CT DEEP Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition (OSWA)
Grants for land trusts and municipalities to buy and protect open space and watershed land in Connecticut. Underserved communities can now be reimbursed for incidental costs.
CT DEEP Energy Resilience Construction Grant
Grants for microgrids and other energy resilience projects that reduce the length and frequency of outages. Awards run from $10,000 to $6 million per applicant. Confirm nonprofit eligibility before applying.
CT DEEP Urban Green and Community Gardens (UGCG)
Funds community gardens, rain gardens, native plantings, and walking paths in distressed, targeted investment, and EJ communities. Open to nonprofits and municipalities. 50/50 reimbursement match.
Sustainable CT Community Match Fund
Dollar-for-dollar match, up to $6,000, on crowdfunded community projects in Sustainable CT registered towns. No traditional application and no deadlines. Includes the Social Change Amplifier Fund for projects led by Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and other organizers of color.
Greater Hartford Gives Foundation, Operating Support for Small Nonprofits
$15,000 over two years in flexible operating support for small, community-rooted nonprofits with annual revenues under $300,000. Fiscally sponsored groups are eligible. Applicants need a record of serving Greater Hartford and some form of organizational plan. Formerly the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, Consultant Support Program
Funds a short-term consultant or coach to work with your staff or board on governance, fund development, HR, or planning. Up to $2,000, or up to $5,000 for strategic alliance projects. Open to nonprofits in the 20-town Greater New Haven and Valley service area, once every 12 months.
New England Regional resources
Grassroots Fund Seed Grants
$500 to $1,000 for new groups, under two years old, working on local environmental issues across New England. No formal tax status needed.
UConn TAB Municipal Assistance Program
Brownfields technical assistance at no cost for New England municipalities, nonprofits, and Tribes, including inventories, site reviews, and community engagement.
TSNE (Third Sector New England)
New England capacity-building intermediary offering a resource hub, fiscal sponsorship, and consulting on HR, finance, and compliance for nonprofits.
National Funding and fellowships
Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI)
Grants of $75,000 to $115,000 for community climate resilience projects, built on a partnership between a community organization, a local government, and an adaptation practitioner. Connecticut is named as a priority state.
NDN Collective Community Action Fund
Urgent-response grants up to $15,000 for Indigenous-led frontline organizing and non-violent direct action to protect land, air, water, and rights.
Lawrence Foundation
Unrestricted grants, typically $5,000 to $10,000, for 501(c)(3) organizations working in environment and human services.
Emergent Fund
Rapid-response grants, usually $10,000 to $30,000, for organizing led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color responding to urgent threats or moments to build power. Low barrier with no reporting.
Libra Philanthropies 2027 Climate Cohort
Nine-month leadership program for climate leaders ages 20 to 35, with three in-person experiences including the Concordia Summit in NYC. Travel and program costs are covered.
Georgetown Fellowship for the Common Good
Year-long, in-person program in Washington, DC for professionals with 20+ years of experience moving into social impact work. Tuition-based, with financial support available.
beVisioneers: The Mercedes-Benz Fellowship
Fellowship for young leaders ages 18 to 28 building environmental projects, with training, mentoring, and project scholarships up to 15,000 euros after year one.
YIP Public Policy Fellowship
Two-month virtual program for high school and undergraduate students ages 13 to 23. Fellows write a policy brief and complete a capstone with mentorship.
National Partner support
Conservation Capacity Project
One-on-one pro bono coaching for conservation nonprofits and Tribes in crisis planning, cybersecurity, finance, fundraising, HR, and strategy.
Environmental Protection Network
Technical assistance from former EPA staff for communities and organizations working on environmental protection and justice.
L4GG Fund Protection Clinic
Pro bono legal help for organizations whose federal funding is at risk from terminations, delays, or compliance issues.
L4GG Green and Equitable Communities Clinic
Pro bono attorneys for EJ communities on permitting, zoning, and clean energy and resilience projects, with or without federal funding.
Collaborative Clinic for Nonprofit Viability
Legal health checks on governance and compliance for grassroots EJ and Indigenous nonprofits facing legal or political pressure. Run by Yale Center for Environmental Justice and Howard Law.
NGO-ISAC Nonprofit Security Network
Security network for nonprofits with little or no security staff, with threat updates, training, and a peer network of 1,000+ professionals.
Climate Advocacy Lab
Trainings and research-based resources on messaging, organizing strategy, and campaign effectiveness.
Environmental Polling Consortium
Weekly polling updates and a searchable library of environmental public opinion data, useful for grant narratives and messaging.
U.S. Data Center Advocacy Hub
Hub for advocacy on data center impacts, with a combined tracking database, training, and coordinated support.
The Combined Defense Project
Network of 900+ advocacy staff across 300 environmental organizations that flags coordinated monthly actions.
Taproot Plus
Matches nonprofits with pro bono consultants for advisory calls or multi-week projects in strategy, marketing, HR, IT, and fundraising.

Call for Session Proposals: Local Solutions Conference 2027
The Dartmouth Climate Collaborative is inviting session proposals for its seventh biannual convening on a climate-resilient, equitable, and decarbonized rural Northeast. About 300 municipal leaders, community organizations, Tribes, and regional partners will attend. Organizers want sessions that share what worked, what did not, and how it got done, with more than one voice in the room, especially community, municipal, and Tribal partners.
