About the EJ Hub

Our story, and the people and funders whose support made it possible.

Our Story

The EJ Hub grew out of a 2023 regional EJ convening, coordinated by Communities First Fund with support from the Barr Foundation, which brought together One Rhode Consulting, Alternatives for Community and the Environment (ACE), the Grassroots Fund, RAD, and others. That regional coalition continued to collaborate in the months that followed, aligning with the federal Thriving Communities initiative, which aimed to get federal resources to underinvested communities. The EJ Hub was formally launched in early 2025, after gathering input from more than 60 regional stakeholders between September and November 2024. Since then, we've pivoted our focus toward navigating organizations to diverse funding and technical assistance resources — while remaining committed to our two founding pillars, Advancing Projects and Supporting Movement Builders.

A Note From the Hub Team

With Appreciation

Our thanks to the Barr Foundation Climate Team. Their support of this work is a demonstration of their leadership and their commitment to New England — helping communities advance community-driven projects that address climate, clean energy, and conservation challenges.

We are grateful to Communities First Fund, who initiated that convening and sowed the seeds of what became the EJ Hub, and who continue to uplift organizations across the region. Thanks also to the Grassroots Fund for serving as fiscal sponsor, and to The Funders Network, the Merck Family Fund, and the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, among others.
